Story behind it:

“In 1990, Peter Howe at Life magazine sent me to North Carolina to photograph a special school for children with problems.

The school was a very strange place because all of the twenty or so children were in the same classroom and their problems ranged from mild behavior instability to severe schizophrenia.

Nine-year-old Amanda was the most interesting child in the class. Amanda was very intelligent and very naughty. One day I followed her home on the school bus. When the bus stopped at her house, she dashed ahead of me and ran into a nearby wooded area. I continued to follow her into the woods and eventually found her sitting in an old stuffed chair having a cigarette. She thought that I would reprimand her since I was an adult. But I said nothing.

The following Sunday, I spent the day at home with Amanda and her mother. Amanda totally controlled her mother. Amanda smoked openly in front of her.

Her 8-year-old cousin Amy was coming over, and she was very excited. All day long, Amanda and her cousin played like children. Every forty-five minutes or so, Amanda would take a break to have a cigarette.

Just before I left, I looked for Amanda to say good-bye. I found her and Amy in the backyard. They were in a children’s inflatable pool. Amanda was taking her regular cigarette break.”

@AMuseWrites Bitter. Love is love period. When you find your match others simply don’t interest you. Not to say that you wont find others attractive bc we’re human but you wont succumb to the urge of meaningless sexual encounters or allow yourself to be in situations where things may happen in the heat of the moment.

Passion, lust and desire are a necessity but there has to be more and once there’s someone who means something to you in the picture where your loss may be greater than an adventure you’re less likely to cheat.

Ultimately- we cheat when we’re no longer happy or interested.. When we feel that there’s probably someone better out there for us and that we’re settling.

Some people are just assholes and others have an addition.

so YES monogamy is a realistic expectation in a relationship..

until it isn’t.

Its kind of understood that Florida doesn’t really do their job when it comes to holding the truly guilty accountable for their actions. But I’ve never been more disgusted with the way they handle “legal” matters than now.

Interrogating a child without an attorney alone deserves strong condemnation. A 12 year old does not understand the Miranda rights… and knowing how cops manipulate people during interrogations any child- alone and scared would crumble.

I mean just look at how they held him up.

Yes, he may have taken horse playing or wrestling to a very disturbing level but this is a KID.. not an adult and its proven that abused and neglected children develop differently.

Even more disturbing is this picture of Cristian in SHACKLES being treated like TED BUNDY, JEFFREY DAHMER or SCOTT PETERSON. He’s a 12 year old KID… being held accountable like these ADULTS {MONSTERS} who knew what they were doing when they were actually MURDERING people and who did it for the pleasure regardless of consequences.

You do see those cases of teenagers who suffer from psychosis and who are psychopaths but from what the psychiatrists/ psychologists have said.. Cristian isn’t one of those people.

This poor kid was hung out to dry.. born to a 12 year old girl, whose mother was a drug addict, were both raised in foster care. Then raped and neglected.. I mean who’s been “raising” him because if he’s the product of the State of Florida Foster system then shame on you for trying to put away someone you should be held accountable for!

This poor boy- who hasn’t experienced anything good in life now probably never will. Unfamiliar to what hope is or means will never experience it unless he gets A CHANCE! As human beings we are responsible for raising children… maybe Angela B. Corey is unfamiliar w/ the saying “it takes a village,” because its obvious that she has no desire to help Cristian build the foundation he was never afforded.

Anyway I looked up on how to try to send State Attorney Corey a letter via email and was unable to submit it.. [SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!! It doesn’t allow you to scroll down to reach the submit button… hmmm. Interesting. http://www.sao4th.com/contact-form.php] Seeing as she’s in charge of three different counties it doesn’t exactly state where her office is located.. so here’s my letter to SA Corey.

It’s in part the letter from the Change.Org Petition started by Melissa (http://www.change.org/petitions/reverse-decision-to-try-12-yo-cristian-fernandez-as-an-adult?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition&utm_term=own_wall) because I thought it to be well written.

State Attorney Corey:

I know there’s a chance you wont read this but I’m BEGGING you not to try 12 year old Cristian Fernandez as an ADULT for the charge of first degree murder. I respectfully ask that you instead allow his case to be tried in juvenile court. I know you’ve said that you “don’t prosecute by petition” but I think we both know that the only reason that petition even got started was because the world agrees that trying him in juvenile court is the right thing. The juvenile court system is structured to provide Cristian with rehabilitative resources he would not have access to in the adult prison system. You have already received reports from experts that Christian is a child who can be reformed and just because there have been other cases in which the culprits have strayed away from the right path does not mean you should blame Cristian or assume he will do the same. This is a completely different person and as such deserves to be treated as a different person.

Cristian Fernandez is a minor child, but also he is a very young minor child. This is not a case involving a 17 year old who has committed a string of robberies, or a home invasion resulting in a killing or even the case of the 14 year old who killed his 8 year old neighbor which is the one you like to bring up. This is a child not a teenager… major difference. Yes, what he did is a crime; which occurred in a completely dysfunctional home in which he received no guidance, supervision or parenting. While I agree that Cristian should be held accountable it is absurd that your office is currently seeking to convict him on charges that demonstrate the highest degree of culpability. This is a child without foundation…

While its possible that Cristian will receive a life without parole sentence, because of you, it’s sickening to hear you advise “him that he must do the best he can with his schooling and counseling to get ready for the future. {SINCE} One day, he’s going to get out.” My question to you is WHAT FUTURE LADY!?? You’re asking that he be convicted of FIRST DEGREE MURDER!! What kind of person says this to a child when they’re planning on sending them to PRISON for the rest of their life. What exactly is his future???? When was the last time a CONVICTED FELON became a fully functioning, productive citizen of the community. I don’t recall employers running to open their doors to “EXCONS.” In fact, after a life time in prison its more than likely that he will be reduced to committing petty crimes and end up back in prison as he will not know how to be a functioning member of society. Your “advice” to him is truly disappointing! You cant be both the bad cop and good cop so stick to the one you’ve demonstrated to being because hypocrisy doesn’t suit you.

Cristian Fernandez is a juvenile and should be treated as such in the criminal justice system. He has experienced physical, sexual, and emotional abuse for which he never received appropriate treatment. How is having a 12 year old in isolation at the jail for 23 hours a day any different than the neglect from his mother? Especially since Isolation has been known for taking tolls in the brain of adult males. I’m interested in knowing how keeping him under lock down for 23 hours of the day is affecting this 12 year old boy.. aside from traumatizing him further I wonder what other social skills you’re making sure he doesn’t develop correctly.

The only message you’re sending to troubled kids is that if they’re sexually abused and neglected and make a mistake that they will surely pay for it as an adult.

You are holding a child who was misguided and {barely} raised in a hostile environment accountable for raising himself. This misfortunate child who was brought up in the foster care system of the state of Florida, who happens to gets sexually abused by his first real father figure.. while under the care of his deplorable mother. Which adult exactly was he supposed to be “growing up to be?”

In 2008 the voters from Duval, Clay and Nassau counties made you the State Attorney. In your thank you, you promised to work diligently on their behalf— Cristian IS one of your “citizens.” He is a child, a trouble child, but a child non-the-less and his adult figures failed him so in a sense it is your job to help rehabilitate him instead of forsaking his life.

I am almost embarrassed and ashamed to be from Florida.. the state who lets a clearly guilty woman of murdering her TODDLER walk free but tries a 12 year old child as an adult without as much as trying to reform and rehabilitate a clearly misguided, unloved soul.

Do the right thing by this child, allow his case to be tried where it belongs – in the juvenile (criminal) justice system.

Don’t end his life! He’s already lost his brother, clearly never had his mother, probably never will after you make him testify against her. I don’t know if you’re trying to end his life I know you say that you’re not or but it sure seems that way… at least thats what YOUR actions say.

His view of the world cant be at all positive, if you want him to grow with a glimpse of hope to be a productive citizen of the community show him mercy for this boy does not know what kindness is.
